This machine is a 1920's Singer Sewing Machine. I
collected this machine from Mark in Colchester, Essex. The machine had been in a
loft
for many years, prior to this it hadn't been serviced since bought. The
machine itself was in very poor condition mechanically and has
proven to be the hardest restore so far. The mechanics below were very rusty
and the dry metal rubbing of the bobbin holder meant it
needed light sanding, polishing down and oiling to make it work again. Their
was a horrible greasy substance around most of the moving
mechanisms that proved very difficult to move even with industrial bleach.
Some of the pieces had to be grounded back to the pre coated
metal to work, the base needed joining, cleaning and varnishing.
Finally I had to cut a new bottom due to irreversible rot.
This restore took about 2 weeks. The machine is a Class 16k, the serial
number was allocated on 1st December 1920 and was
one of a batch 10'000 of made in a factory in Kilbowie Clydebank Scotland
