Page | 1 | 2 |

This machine is an old Duchess sewing machine. It has been in my family for approximately 50 years. My Mother bought it around

The time my eldest sister was born. Unfortunately my Mum can't remember if she bought it new or second hand.

The machines mechanism had frozen up with rust and the wooden box was in several pieces. Full restoration took about a month

Mainly at weekends, this consisted of stripping the mechanical components down, de rusting and lubricating as well as ordering some spares.

Many thanks to Dawn from EBay, her shop is called Sewing Online (Click here for link) Dawn was able to identify a few parts and also supply

an instruction manual. Finally the base box I had to take apart, re set and dowel some joints, fill, sand and finally Varnish.

The machine now works perfectly and as well as being a nice showpiece will also be used.

Scroll down for some pictures of the restoration process.
